So... I'm trying to catch up on all my blogs and I thought that i might as well post this blog up now:)
The Canterbury Tales were funny!
I can't believe the first one, the Miller's Prologue and Tale.
Mostly the tale though! It was so... how do i say it. OUT OF THE ORDINARY. Guys tricking other guys, girls sticking their gluteus maximus out the window for another to kiss, farting in a guys face, and having a hot iron thing get shoved up the... well you should know! It was waayy out there, but I guess that's what i should've expected from the drunk miller(whose name is Robin).
The other Tale that grabbed my attention was the Wife's Tale. I agree with her in many things: mostly the sovereignty for women part:)
Women should be the one's with power in the house! We can't let men walk over us! But maybe we can share the power.... That would be better then competing for it. It was kind of gross that she was so old married with that young guy though. What was that guy thinking! EW! People were real wierd back in those days.
Now, the Pardoner's Tale surprised me:o
It was the most interesting and even though he wasn't listening to his own advice, he gave good advice. He also personified death which made the story more interesting. It's funny how at the end they all kill each other and find death because of greed. Its a great story to explain the evil of greed.
The Nun's Priest's Tale was wierd. I didn't really understand it much at first. I had to reread it like five times! That's how i learned the names! except for the rooster's... that one is still hard to even pronounce. But overall it was a good tale:)
They all were... I'm kind of glad we didn't have to read ALL of the Tales tho! That would've taken FOREVER!
When I was reading the Canterbury tales at first I was hardly able to follow the story line because of all the complicated language! However, once I started getting into it, I realized just how vulgar and crazy everything was! Sometimes we tend to look back on the stories and think "ohh old english, must be boring and serious", when in reality it really isn't! Sure these people lived centuries ago, but that doesn't mean they weren't neccessarily just as unpredictable and crazy as people are today! It was so interesting to see just how similar the two time periods really are!
